Posting not displaying properly in IE7 (Solved)

This post is for people who have issues with your blog posting, usually getting only half your page to display or missing sidebars only in Internet Explorer.

The reason is because you have copy your text directly from MS Word and paste onto your blog post WYSIWYG post editor. Some “not-so-friendly” html code will be auto-included by the WYSIWYG editor.

Troubleshoot:

Step #1
Go and edit your faulty blog post, check the HTML code by selecting the “HTML” tab
If you know how to read html, remove any funny HTML code that doesn’t belong there
If not carry on with step #2

Step #2
Go back to you Visual View by selecting the “Visual” tab
Activate all your mini icons first

Step #3
Select the whole article and cut (Ctrl+x) the whole post.

Step #4
Select the MS Words Icon, A text box will pop-up.

Step #5
Paste the code (Ctrl+v) into the text editor
Click on “Insert”, that’s it!

Summary

This error with IE7 will occurs because of the auto-include features of WP WYSIWYG text editor. Unlike Mozilla or Chrome browsers, IE browser behaves badly when they see the fuzzy formatting and assume it is bad programming and ignore the later posting.

Last but not least, if you were to copy any text from MS Words in future, do make use of the option available in the WP editor.

Thank you so much for this information. I found you somehow through searching. Your instructions were very simple that even I could understand. I wish all WordPress instructions were this easy. I’m truly a dummie when it comes to Wordpress but was force to continue using it after the site was already constructed. I’m struggling but I’m getting there little by little. Thank you Thank you. I can move on now to more complications.

Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
    God will appreciate it.

  • This happened to me yesterday - at the worst possible time. I just started using Firefox to browse because it seemed faster than IE, I upgraded my Wordpress blog and posted a couple of entries, including a huge post for a blog carnival and giveaway. I didn’t know until half-way through the day that IE users couldn’t see my blog at all. I was removed from the carnival and unable to find the source of the error. I planned for this thing for weeks, and missed out on A LOT of traffic from it.

I took the latest post (the big one) and followed your instructions with the paste from Word option. After that, the one post is available in IE, but you still cannot view the sidebars, nor is the option to comment available for that post. No other posts are visible on that page, but the rest of the blog works just fine in IE. You can access other posts from my page links at the top, and on any other page than the offending post, the sidebars are visible, along with links to previous posts and comments.

I will continue to edit the post the way you describe and try once again to eliminate the bad information.

  • I was hoping your fix would work but no such luck. My most recent post does not appear in IE, firefox no problem. It will display my post’s title but then replaces the text with the next post.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi Norm,

I have gone through the source code of your website and found that it is written in MS words, follow the steps as written above.

    For example, your post in
    http://www.gilmanresearch.com/bestmode/2009/02/17/in-car-coffee-maker/

You could just cut the article using the post editor and paste the article into the MS Word text box in STEP #4.

  • Hi Ren,

I followed your steps but unfortunately it did not solve my problem, which is that some of my posts are appearing blank (Title only) when viewed in IE.

    Any other suggestions?

    Regards Grahame

    Hi Grahame,

Can you send me the links of the posts that are appearing blank and what is your IE version? I couldn’t find any blank post using IE7 for your blog.

    Regards,
    Rendell

  • Hi Ren!
I have got the same problem. I did everything you said about MS word once again. I actually never paste from MS word, because I had a problem with MS word before. Unfortunately, it did not help me.
When I type my blog’s URL in IE browser, a page comes for a moment and then another page appears. It is absolutely blank. There are only 5 adverts from ClickBank on the left side of window, but they have to be on the right side. Another strange thing is I can not go back to the search page from the blank page using the back arrow on the IE window. I have just trapped on it.
Surprisingly, everything is OK in Firefox browser. Do you have any suggestion what can I do? If so, I would appreciate your help.
    Thank you.
    Irina

  • Hi Ren - really appreciate your post & assistance on this problem. I’ve included my blog link and wonder if you could take a look? I have gone through the steps you suggested on every single post I’ve made and while everything appears beautifully in Mozilla, my columns are still scrunched and chopped off on Internet Explorer.

Because I have links and pictures, some HTML code is necessary, but I deleted anything that looked extraneous and am clueless whether it’s the Aspire template or what you describe here and I simply missed a fix or two. Anything you can add will be appreciated! Larissa

    Hi Irina,

Very likely your page is hijacked by some black hatter.

Look at your blog again, check for:
    1. Images hosted on other web server which does not display anything
    2. Iframe which is only 1 pixel
    3. Javascripts files loaded on other web server.
